Home Energy Audit
Discover Greater Comfort, Lower Energy Bills, and a Healthier Home
A Home Energy Audit, also known as a home assessment, is the first crucial step toward making your home more comfortable, energy-efficient, and healthier. Whether your goal is to reduce utility bills or embark on a home improvement project, starting with a detailed audit ensures optimal results.
Our comprehensive audit will identify why your home may feel drafty, inefficient, or contribute to health concerns. Not only do we pinpoint the issues, but we also provide expert recommendations and permanent solutions to address them.
Preparing for Your Home Energy Audit
To ensure a smooth audit experience, we recommend the following:
- Have at least one homeowner available to accompany the energy auditor during the assessment. Feel free to ask questions and take notes throughout the process.
- Expect the audit to take between 2–4 hours, depending on your home’s size, age, and condition.
- Ensure clear access to all rooms and make mechanical systems such as heating and cooling equipment accessible. Please remove ashes from fireplaces or wood-burning stoves before the audit.
- For the safety of your pets, consider temporarily relocating or restraining them, as the diagnostic tests may cause unnecessary stress.
- Plan to provide access to the past 12 months of utility bills or energy usage data.
What to Expect During the Audit
Your Home Energy Solutions auditor will perform the following services:
- A visual inspection of your home, including the attic, basement or crawlspace, insulation levels, windows, doors, and mechanical equipment like HVAC systems.
- Diagnostic tests to assess your home’s current condition. The data gathered will be analyzed using advanced software to provide accurate recommendations.
- A blower door test to measure air leakage and overall home tightness.
- A combustion safety and ventilation test to ensure your furnace, water heater, and other mechanicals are operating safely and that proper air circulation is maintained.
- An optional infrared camera scan to detect air leaks and inadequate insulation in your walls.
- Energy-saving tips, answers to your questions, and solutions to address your concerns.
After The Audit
Following the audit, you’ll receive a customized energy efficiency report detailing our findings and tailored recommendations for improving your home’s comfort and performance. You can choose all or some of the recommended changes.
Your auditor will go over available state and federal rebates and incentives and help you prioritize efficiency improvements before pricing out the project costs, presenting a contracting, and completing the improvements.
